“Grandma Georgie” as she is affectionately called, is our oldest and longest resident. Before coming to Hope Youth Ranch, she spent her life first as a racehorse and later as a barrel racer. Because her previous jobs were speed events that required her to run fast, it took Georgie some time to adjust to being a therapy horse. Over the years she became one of the best horses for our riding program and quickly became a favorite. She was known for being very sensitive to the aids and easy to ride. She is incredibly sweet and loving towards the students and even has a heart shaped marking on her forehead! In 2019 we retired Georgie from riding. She is now over 30 years old and has deserved a comfortable retirement. Her current job is companion to the miniature donkeys and saying hello to any visitors in the barn.
